Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on the 19th of January 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee and raised in Sevierville, Tennessee to Avie Lee Parton, who was a housewife and Robert Lee Parton, a tobacco farmer. When she was 12 she was already on Knoxville TV. At 13 she was already recording for a small record label and singing at Grand Ole Opry. She relocated to Nashville in 1964 to begin her country music career after she graduated from high school. Carl Dean, an asphalt-paving businessman, was drawn to her, and they were married on May 30, 1966. Porter Wagoner saw her singing and hired her to appear on The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She stayed with the show for seven years. Their duets gained fame and she was a part of his band at the Grand Ole Opry; she also sold and toured records. When her hit single from 1970 "Joshua" hit #1, her fame was just too high to compete with the fame of his. In 1974, she toured alone and recorded duets alongside his. He was gone and she was a solo performer in 1974. Dolly was a massive success as a songwriter/singer. Dolly has won many Country Music Association awards (1968, 1970, 1971, 1975, 1976). The diminutive (5'0") beauty was a perfect fit for television. In the mid-1970s, Dolly was frequently appearing on talk shows, and even before receiving her own Dolly (1976). Dolly got her first Grammy award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1977 for "Here You Come Again". Dolly made her film debut in the film 9 to 5, the year 1980. She received nominations for an Oscar for the song that was the title and also for Grammy Awards 2/3: Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Further fame was earned through her roles in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), as along with Rhinestone (1984) and Rhinestone (1984), with the track "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises is her media empire, worth $100 million. In 1986, she created Dollywood which is a Tennessee theme park located in Pigeon Forge. This was to honor her Smoky Mountain childhood. In the 1987 television show Dolly, she starred as herself. In 1988 she was awarded another Grammy: Best Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals, for "Trio".
